From newer romantic getaways in Dundas, Ontario to more known ones that have been around for years, I have rounded up the best of the best that I have personally been to and can attest to.

While a romantic getaway to any of these Ontario places checks all the boxes, I would go to any of these hotels, spas or resorts with my girlfriends…or even alone!

The Liberty Inn, Caledon

The Liberty Inn in Caledon is one of those hidden gems you’ll want to return to year after year once you’ve experienced it. The interiors feel high end ( very Nancy Meyers vibes) and there is not a single detail missed. Between the weighted robes, LED masks, pillow sprays, infrared sauna in your room ( the Hawthorne Suite at least), you will be in zen mode in no time.

The real highlight here is the Nordic Spa experience which can be used privately for an hour at a time. Guests can enjoy a series of hot and cold pools, saunas, and relaxation areas designed to leave you feeling completely refreshed. It’s the perfect way to disconnect, recharge, and indulge in some true self-care.

I definitely had the best sleep of my life here and woke up to the smell of fresh croissants, eggs and coffee waiting for me! Yes, each room gets some breakfast items included to make in the morning. We played some music on their vinyl player and it felt like a scene from a movie!

Ste. Anne’s Spa in Grafton, Ontario

Ste. Anne’s Spa is a classic Ontario getaway that once you know about it, you continue to visit yearly. Booking here gives you an all inclusive experience meaning all your food is included in the pricing along with a spa credit that you can put towards any treatment. Upfront it may seem pricey but when you breakdown all the meals that are included, it really is not bad at all.

The food here is also phenomenal so keep that in mind. You can expect farm to table dishes, unique flavours, healthy options and more from breakfast to dinner. In addition to breakfast, lunch and dinner, you also have the option of doing an afternoon tea which really adds to the experience. They have an on site bakery on the grounds so all the baked items used for the tea are included and my oh my- they are insanely good.

PLANNING A FEW GETAWAYS? CHECK OUT THESE POSTS BELOW:

The grounds really give off that romantic getaway vibe with accommodation options including private cottages that are scattered throughout the property ( and there are acres and acres of property). Most of the cottages or houses have fireplaces, large beds, porches or terraces and above all- offer a lot of privacy.

Robes are not only included here for easy access to their thermal circuits but they are also encouraged at all meals! You can stay cozy with your hunny over wine and some fine dining options at dinner which certainly made me feel romantic.

Ste. Anne’s Spa is the perfect romantic getaway in Ontario for spa lovers and those who are seeking a quiet and low key stay.

The High Acre in Dundas Ontario- A Brand New Ontario Romantic Getaway

The High Acre in Dundas, Ontario is a special and intimate spot if you are craving solitude and quietness. This is one of the most unique properties I have stayed at and one where you can escape the world with your partner. I think we leaved our room once or twice during the whole stay. The 4 suites at The High Acre all have their own steam room, infrared sauna space, plunge tub and full kitchen. With all of this right behind your own door, why would you leave?

There are also so many special details in each of the rooms that it is the perfect place to celebrate a milestone together….all while being in your robes and in the comfort of your own room while doing so!

If you do want to leave the room, they have an outdoor heated pool that is open year round and some great common areas!

I recommend bringing in some wine (or champagne- they literally have every type of glassware you can think of) and putting on a record ( because yes a record player is also included).

This couples weekend getaway here would check all the boxes. You can view my full review HERE

The Dorchester in Collingwood, Ontario

Opened just last year, The Dorchester in Collingwood, Ontario is one of my favourite Ontario Romantic Getaways for the winter. The downtown core of Collingwood feels like an actual Hallmark movie ( especially over the Holiday season) and taking cover inside The Dorchester with your partner makes for a pretty sweet escape.

I love this Ontario Romantic Getaway because while the hotel itself is swanky and luxe, you have so many fun things to do in town if you do get bored. It truly is the best of both worlds. There is also the nearby Scandanvine Spa to amplify your getaway weekend where you can opt for a couples massage or simply unwind in their thermal pools together. There is also the Blue Mountain Resort and village for some great dining options too.

If you want to stay put in the hotel, please take a look at their stand alone tubs. The tub alone is worth the visit!

Wander Resort in Prince Edward County, Ontario

Images via Wander Resort

The Wander Resort in Prince Edward County makes you feel like you are in Sweden with it’s Nordic and modern designs. It is truly one of the most outstanding resorts and a romantic Ontario getaway that should be on your list in the summer or fall. Both seasons are magical at Wander. In the winter, you can stay cozy inside their well designed rooms, lit some candles and converse by the fire. In the summer you can hit up the many wineries in the area, enjoy the beaches in the nearby Sandbank Provincial park or sit at their outdoor pool.

This is an Ontario Romantic Getaway that you should book well in advance as they only have a few rooms on site and they book up months and month in advance.

Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario

Considered one of the nicest hotels in Ontario, Langdon Hall is an Ontario romantic getaway that is worth splurging on. With 5 star dining and a notable wine program, visiting Langdon Hall makes you feel like you have escaped to a luxurious resort in Europe. It’s only 1.5 hours from Toronto and is located in the most idyllic countryside settings ( 75 acres to be exact!)

They have won numerous awards -Canada’s top 7th fine dining restaurant out of 100 being the most prestigious one yet and their wine program is considered one of the best in the country. If spectacular food and dining isn’t your idea of romance, their spa will surely give you the feels.

The have a full circuit of pools for you to unwind in- a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna, and a steam room along with a list of wellness activities and spa services to amplify the experience.

This is definitely one of the most romantic getaways in Southern Ontario, for sure!

Some Other Ontario Romantic Getaways to Consider:

ONTARIO ROMANTIC GETAWAYS
  • Hilton Niagara Falls: An Ontario Romantic Getaway with a view of Niagara Falls! It’s a classic one ( and a more reasonable option if you are looking to stick to a budget) This is also a great option if you are looking for a last minute weekend getaway in Ontario as there are plenty of rooms!
  • Wiley Point Lodge: Seeking those couples who love the outdoors and a bit of adventure! If that is your idea of romance, this is for you!
  • Elora Mill Hotel & Spa: Located in a restored old mill, this charming yet luxurious hotel and spa is an Instagram lover’s dream. It is situated on the edge of the Grand River and has a rooftop pool and hot tub. Their spa has it’s own building and state of the art facilities and you won’t have any issue getting zen here with the natural sounds of the river directly beside you. Another highlight here is their waterfront dining restaurant.
  • Fairmont Chateau Laurier: Visit our country’s capital but make it romantic! Highly suggest this Ontario romantic getaway trip during the Winter so you can go skating on the canal and get cozy afterwards at the Fairmont!
  • Fairmont Royal York: Located right downtown in the heart of Toronto, this is a Classic Ontario Romantic Getaway for couples who want some action!
  • The Pillar and Post in Niagara on the Lake: This place is an iconic and legendary spot in downtown Niagara on the lake. What I love about this Ontario romantic getaway is that you can hit up all the beautiful wineries nearby and then get all cozy in your room right after. Best of both worlds!
  • Cedar Grove Lodge: This is a romantic getaway in Ontario if you are after “cabin in the woods” kind of vibe!

Whatever you are looking for in a romantic weekend getaway in Ontario, I hope this list helps you decide on a spot!

The High Acre: Dundas, Ontario Spa You Need To Visit ASAP https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/the-high-acre-dundas-ontario-spa-you-need-to-visit-asap/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-high-acre-dundas-ontario-spa-you-need-to-visit-asap https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/the-high-acre-dundas-ontario-spa-you-need-to-visit-asap/#comments Wed, 31 May 2023 00:40:25 +0000 https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/?p=72189 The High Acre in Dundas, Ontario is a new luxury boutique hotel that you will want to add to your bucket list this year. This 5 star bed and breakfast is not only the most gorgeous place to hang your hat at for a night but it also features an in room infrared sauna, Hamman steam, aromatherapy and plunge tub in each of their rooms.

Restored from a 1867 farm house, The High Acre has been renovated and transformed into what felt like a dream space. It is equal parts beautiful and equals parts soo relaxing. It features so many unique details that I will get into later.

With it being just an hour from Toronto and 20 minutes from downtown Hamilton, it is so conveniently located for a staycation. If you live further, I would definitely add on a second night. Heck, I live only15 minutes away and I could have easily stayed the week!

FOUR DIFFERENT ROOM OPTIONS AT THE HIGH ACRE

There are four different room options at The High Acre- The Eastman, The Hudson, The Grightmare, and The Stotnick. Regardless of your room selection, you will get all the spa amenities included, your own kitchen and a fireplace. Some of the bath tubs, steam rooms and fireplaces vary in terms of design but the function of them all is the same. I think my new life goal is to stay in each of the rooms!

I did get the chance to take a peak at them all and I honestly couldn’t pick which one was my favourite though. All of them include the same sheets and bed sizes as well and I actually had to ask what kind of mattresses they used. They were INSANELY comfy.

We stayed in The Grightmare which is the biggest of the room options and on the lower level. We loved it so much. The Eastman has a really cool in steam room tub which the other units do not have. This room was also on the lower level. Both The Hudson and the Stotnick are on the second level and I would say their fireplace/tub set up is the highlight in these rooms! Like I said, you really can’t go wrong with any of the suites though!

THE COMMON AREAS AND OUTDOOR SPACE

The High Acre in Dundas, Ontario

While it is SO easy to just put in your room, there are many common areas at The High Acre that are worth coming out for.

First of all they have a full on outdoor pool on the grounds that is equipped with sleek and modern lounge chairs and umbrellas. There is also an all seasons hot tub that joins the pool if you want to do some relaxing outside.

It was rainy on the day we visited, so it seems like I will have to go back when it’s warmer and sunnier to fully experience this part of the The High Acre ( I am honestly looking for ANY excuse to go back). If swimming isn’t your thing, then you can sit in their covered terrace area just off the main doors. It is perfect for a glass of rose on a hot summer day or reading with some fresh air.

Since the High Acre has thought of every single detail, you can expect to find little flip flops by the door for you to use before you head outside- seamlessly connecting the whole space and not interrupting your robe/spa vibe!

ENHANCE YOUR WELLNESS EXPERIENCE WITH HOLISTIC AND HEALING ADD ON’S

We filled up our time at The High Acre by doing the thermal circuit right in our suites about 10 times a day. Not kidding LOL

We cold plunged in the soaking tub, we steamed and then we went into the Infrared Dry Sauna to unwind. It was perfection and really felt like the most unique stay of all time as we have never stayed in a hotel where we had a private steam and sauna.

We broke things up with some wine of course and some reading and felt completely amazing.

If we were to stay two nights at The High Acre though, I would definitely recommend adding on a few wellness experiences to enhance your stay. While your room is basically your own wellness retreat, you can venture out and do yoga, hiking or even book a spa service like a massage.

An RMT can be booked prior to your stay and you can have your massage RIGHT in your suite. What kind of spa or hotel offers this kind of personalized service? None that I have been to! Furthermore there are not many Spas in Dundas, Ontario in general so this is truly one of the best places to visit for not only a getaway but also for a spa service.

While a Massage needs to be booked ahead of time and offers a few different massage styles, Yoga on the other hand is offered every morning ( at the time of writing this). We did a very light morning at 9:30AM and it was such a great start to another relaxing day.

Here are some other in room wellness add on’s that are complimentary:

  • Led Infrared Red Masks from The Higher Dose. These promote deeper sleeps, help with anti aging and help you focus
  • Massage Gun in every bedside drawer
  • In Room Diffuser with Various Aromatherapy blends
  • QR Codes in the Sauna and by the Bed for easily accessible meditation sessions

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING

  • The lobby bar ( which is the cutest thing potentially alive) is not licensed. There are plans for it to have Kombucha and Teas on tap but if you are looking for some wine or a cocktail, you won’t find it here. Make sure to bring enough wine or drinks so you don’t have to leave!
  • There are a ton of Restaurants close by if you want to get out to eat. I would recommend Namu, Betula, Detour Coffee ( for lunch) or Bangkok Spoon. While all these places are amazing, I highly suggest just doing Uber Eats to The High Acre. I believe Namu is on Uber Eats! Trust me, you won’t want to leave.
  • You can definitely visit some hiking trails without a car but most restaurants and the main area of Dundas is best accessed via a car! It’s just a short 5 minute ride but walking would take much longer.
  • You can stay 1 or 2 nights and not be bored AT ALL! Since we live about 15 minutes away, we did 1 night but I think to fully, fully unwind I would recommend 2.
  • Breakfast is included in each suite. You can find croissants ready to be baked, farm fresh eggs, milk, coffee and homemade jam and butters to compliment this all. *Chef’s Kiss*
  • They legitmately have a full selection of glassware- ie: If you bring champagne, they have champagne glasses. If you plan to mix up a cocktail, they have cocktail glasses. Also it is worth nothing that all their plate ware and cutlery is from Dine with Fable. Ugh, swoon!

All in all, this place is absolute heaven and I don’t think there is one thing I would change about it. Whether it’s for a girls getaway, an anniversary or even on a solo trip, the High Acre will make you have all the feels in the best way possible.

The 5 Best Waterfalls in Hamilton, Ontario https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/the-5-best-waterfalls-in-hamilton/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-5-best-waterfalls-in-hamilton https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/the-5-best-waterfalls-in-hamilton/#comments Sun, 24 Jul 2022 16:01:49 +0000 https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/?p=70101 Before I share where you can find the best waterfalls in Hamilton, I think it’s important to note that I was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario!! Although I left the city for a few years to live elsewhere, I am so happy I ended up back here. The hiking trails, the emerging art scene and all the new restaurants popping up are just a few reasons why it is a great place to live.

And of course the other reason to love it is because Hamilton has the best waterfalls around! It was even declared that Hamilton is the “City of Waterfalls” since it has the most waterfalls and cascades of it’s size in the world. Pretty impressive if I do say so myself!

There are so many falls and cascades within the city but these ones below are hands down my favourite waterfalls that the city has and most of them have great hiking trails that pair along with it beautifully.

#1. TIFFANY FALLS

Photo via Hamiltonconservation.com

Tiffany Falls sits between Ancaster and Dundas and is one of the more popular waterfalls that Hamilton has! The great thing about Tiffany Falls is that it is one of the quickest waterfalls in Hamilton to access. It only takes 5 minutes by foot to get there from the parking lot. You have to cross two wooden bridges to reach it and it is then followed by a little trail. This waterfall in Hamilton is recommended not only in Summer, Spring and Fall but it is also SO beautiful in the winter. Like a scene from Frozen.

KID FRIENDLY? Yes you can bring your kids to this waterfall but I would not recommend doing it with them in the winter as the path gets really icy and slippery.

TIPS FOR VISITING THIS HAMILTON WATERFALL: The parking lot, especially on weekends, does fill up fast and it is situated off a busy street so make sure to go early! Parking is $11.00 for one hour!

#2. SHERMAN FALLS: THE ABSOLUTE BEST WATERFALL IN HAMILTON IN MY OPINION!

Sherman Falls might be my absolute favourite waterfall that is not only in Hamilton but also in Ontario! The size of it, the trail surrounding it and just how captivating it looks in the morning light makes me come back time and time again. This waterfall hike in Hamilton is definitely less crowded than most of the other ones which is another big thing that I love about it.

You can access Sherman Falls through two points. You can park in the parking lot on Lions Club Road. Once you park, you walk back down to the main road and the falls is on the right ( it’s at a three way street intersection basically). This walk to the falls is SO easy. It takes about 5 minutes.

The other option, if you are looking for a longer hike, is to start at the Ancaster Mill. There is parking there when they do not have an event going on ( so your best bet is to go during the week!). This hike to Sherman Falls takes about 20 minutes or so. There are more hills and rugged pathways going this way so I would definitely do the shorter one if bringing kids.

KID FRIENDLY? Yes do the short hike to this waterfall ( accessed through Old Dundas Road and Lions Club Road). Another great thing about this Hamilton waterfall is that it is shaded.

TIPS FOR VISITING THIS HAMILTON WATERFALL: The parking lot near Ancaster Mill closes off when they have an event. Plan accordingly or use the parking lot on Lions Club Road. Do not park directly outside of the waterfall entrance or you will get a ticket. This waterfall hike pairs nicely with Tiffany Falls if you are looking to see two in one day! There is also Canterbury falls close by too!

#3. WEBSTER FALLS: THE MOST POPULAR WATERFALL IN HAMILTON

Webster Falls in Hamilton, Ontario which is one of the most popular Waterfalls in hamilton
Photo via Hamilton Conservation Website

Webster Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in Hamilton to visit and the largest of the bunch! It is popular for good reason. It, simply put, is STUNNING! This Hamilton waterfall is technically in Dundas, Ontario and is part of the Spencer Gorge Conservation Area! Since it has become SO popular over the years, visitors need to book a spot in advance during the months of May through November which gives you two hours! You can find more information out HERE!

The parking lot address for Webster Falls is: 277 Brock Road, Dundas.

KID FRIENDLY? Yes the trail and walk to it are very kid friendly-probably the best out of all the waterfalls in Hamilton for strollers too! There is also a viewing platform which makes it easy for kids to see everything in a safe way.

TIPS FOR VISITING THIS HAMILTON WATERFALL: Since it is so popular, it gets VERY busy. Definitely go during the week if you can- even if you have a reservation. They let more people in during the weekend and you will have a harder time securing a spot on the weekend as well due to so many people coming from other cities to visit this place.

The best time to visit here, in my opinion, is in the fall! The colours are just insane and you can pair this waterfall viewing with Dundas Peak which overlooks the entire Dundas valley. Keep in mind however that you need to buy a spot/viewing slot to each of these! Booking Webster falls, doesn’t give you access to seeing Tew’s Falls or Dundas Peak.

Dundas Peak Waterfalls in Hamilton

#4. DEVIL’S PUNCHBOWL: WATERFALL + A VIEW IN HAMILTON

Devil’s Punchbowl is amazing because you not only get a beautiful waterfall but you have a view of the entire city of Hamilton ( and Stoneycreek which is where this Hamilton waterfall lies). The official address is: 185 Ridge Road, Stoney Creek, ON L8J 2W1.

Photo via Hamiltonconversation.com

This Hamilton waterfall is super high at over 33 metres so it is unbelievably captivating- so much so that some people try to go to the bottom of it. You should know that this is prohibited and if you try to go, there are sometimes by law officers who give out tickets at upwards of $800.

KID FRIENDLY? The kids will love this one as it’s super quick ( only 150 metres from the parking lot!) and you can bring your stroller to the viewing section. The Devil’s Punchbowl Side Trail however is NOT stroller friendly and is quite narrow ( if you want to add a hike to this Hamilton waterfall viewing).

TIPS FOR VISITING THIS HAMILTON WATERFALL: Pair this visit with the nearby Devil’s Punchbowl Market! They have amazing baked items and pastries and it is super cute! I also would recommend coming to see the waterfall at sunset as you have unobstructed views of the city as the sun comes down. Magical.

#5. CHEDOKE FALLS: SOME OF THE BEST WATERFALLS IN HAMILTON CAN BE FOUND ON THIS TRAIL

Heading onto this trail gives you viewings of SO many waterfalls, not just the big Chedoke Falls one which is something I love about this waterfall trail.

The larger Chedoke Falls waterfall is not as easy to find but is certainly worth it! It is a ribbon waterfall that is over 60 feet high! To reach this Hamilton waterfall, you need to head onto the Chedoke Radial Trail which is one of my favourite running routes.

You can access this trail from either the end of Dundurn Street ( parking is limited here) or by parking on Scenic Drive which has an official- though small- parking lot. You can access the falls when you reach Chedoke creek on the trail and it is a a bit of a difficult hike/climb to reach the bigger falls. My recommendation for your first visit would be to just stroll along the Chedoke Radial Trail and let the trail lead you to all the little paths that attach to it. This path also leads to the escapement stairs at Upper Paradise and West 5th!

Chedoke Falls Waterfalls in Hamilton
One of the smaller waterfalls on Chedoke Trail

KID FRIENDLY? Yes you can bring your kids to this waterfall but I would not recommend doing it with them in the winter as the path gets really icy and slippery.

TIPS FOR VISITING THIS HAMILTON WATERFALL: The parking lot, especially on weekends, does fill up fast and it is situated off a busy street so make sure to go early!

Some other important things to note about Hamilton’s Waterfalls are the following:

  • You cannot fly drones anywhere in Hamilton Conservation Authority territory. Tempting, I know!
  • If you get a yearly pass with the Hamilton Conservation Authority which runs about $115 a year, parking is free in any park or conservation area that falls under their umbrella! If you go a lot ( which we do), it’s totally worth it!
  • Be safe on the trails. Winter can be very icy and I learned the hard way one time. Always check the weather conditions before going and please respect the areas ( NO TRASH!!)

I hope you found this blog post about Hamilton’s Waterfalls helpful! If you have any further questions, feel free to DM me on Instagram!

10 Fun Things to do in Stratford, Ontario on a Girls Trip https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/things-to-do-in-stratford-ontario/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=things-to-do-in-stratford-ontario https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/things-to-do-in-stratford-ontario/#comments Wed, 15 Jun 2022 00:54:16 +0000 https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/?p=69596 Last year, our family had the chance to visit Stratford, Ontario for the first time and we were blown away! It was architecturally beautiful, the restaurant scene was out of this world and everywhere in town was walkable. We couldn’t believe that it was only 1.5 hours away!

There were so many things to do in Stratford as a family but this time around, I wanted to escape mom life for a night and have a fun little getaway with my girlfriend!

We got up to a lot and if you are looking for a quick girls trip to Stratford, Ontario- this is the itinerary for you!

LOOKING TO EXPLORE OTHER NEARBY PLACES? CHECK OUT THESE POSTS TOO:

#1. EXPERIENCE A WINE FLIGHT AT BRCH & WYN

Things to do in Stratford, Bryn & Wyn, Restaurants in Stratford, Staycations, Stratford itinerary

A newer spot in Stratford, the space at Brch & Wyn is all of the design goals. It features tropical accents, velvet chairs, original stone walls and a cool neon sign aka Instagram dreams! It is a coffee shop by day and a wine and charcuterie spot by night. It offers over 10 different cheese selections and an expansive wine list, allowing you to build the perfect tasting experience based on your preferences! I would recommend hitting this up before your dinner reservation or for a late lunch!

#2. DISCOVER STRATFORD’S BEST SHOPS

Things to do in Stratford Ontario, Stratford Restaurants, York Street in Stratford, Stratford Hotels, Stratford Shops

A girls trip isn’t complete without a little retail therapy, am I right? There are plenty of unique and locally owned shops in the heart of Stratford that will have you swooning. What I love about the shopping here is that no two stores are the same and that you get a more personalized experience.

Here is a list of some of my favourite Stratford shops:

La Osa– They say not to judge a book by it’s cover but I definitely did with this store. The storefront alone is stunning and the inside finds are just as good. You can find carefully selected vintage finds that are not only on trend but also are unique. You won’t be showing up to a dinner in the same outfit as anyone else if you shop here!

Grace Boutique– Swimwear, lingerie, loungewear and elevated basics can be found at this boutique. With it being a ladies trip, we enjoyed this one a lot!

Bradshaws – This store is probably the most iconic shop in Stratford having been open since 1895. This is the ultimate hostess gift store….or if you want to get all unique home items for yourself.

Distill Gallery – This store features a selection of Canadian designers and highlights sustainable fashion, home decor and jewellery.

Dale & Company – The aesthetics of this place is out of control. I felt like I was in a magazine when I stepped inside or in a Pinterest board. They have home good pieces like throw pillows, blankets, light fixtures and art pieces and basically any piece you purchase would elevate your home big time.

#3. HAVE A PRE OR POST DINNER DRINK AT THE RELIC LOBBY BAR

Things to do in Stratford, Relic Lobby Bar, Stratford Ontario, Restaurants in Stratford, Stratford Festival

If you want to feel like you have been transported into Havana, Cuba, make sure to stop at The Relic Lobby Bar for a pre or post dinner cocktail! The owner is originally from Cuba and knows a thing or two about mixing up exotic, hand crafted and unique cocktails. We literally saw someone getting a drink that had a full on flame coming out of it ( don’t worry- it burnt out just in time for them to sip it). They feature the classics like Margaritas and Dirty Martinis but it would be a shame to come here and not experience one of the signature cocktails they offer and have concocted themselves! The signage and front view of the bar is enough to make you want to visit ( one of the most eye catching frontages in Stratford for sure) and somehow the inside matches it!

#4. GRAB A LUNCH AT YSK BISTRO’S GARDEN PATIO OR EL CACTUS TACO SHOP

The lunch scene in Stratford is happening! A lot of people who book a Matinee show time at the Stratford Festival will start their day off with a pre-theatre lunch which is exactly what we did. While there are plenty of options in town, we had lunch at these two spots and couldn’t say one bad thing about either.

YSK Bistro is perfect if you want a “Ladies who Lunch” vibe as they have some lighter menu options like salads and sandwiches. We got the Waldorf Salad and a Turkey Sandwich and shared them as we couldn’t decide what we wanted! They also have a big selection of wraps….and wine! It was such a great spot to visit before seeing Chicago

el Cactus Taco Shop was where we went to kick off our trip! I instantly felt like I was in a small little Mexican town when I stepped inside. It didn’t hurt that we ordered two of their margaritas to really set the tone. Can I just say that you absolutely need their Passionfruit marg? So fresh and delicious. Their patio was also such a vibe and we ended up sitting there for over an hour after we ate because we loved it so much! We got the jalapeno dip to start and the pork tacos as our mains. Anddddd– now I am hungry thinking of it! Drooool.

#5. SEE A SHOW AT THE STRATFORD FESTIVAL

Stratford Ontario, Things to do in Stratford

How could you visit Stratford, Ontario without seeing what they are most known for? THEATRE!

With four distinct venues throughout town, there are plenty of show offerings for you to discover. We decided on “CHICAGO” and we were blown away by the talent. Right now the current line up of plays include not only Chicago but classics like Hamlet and Little Women. Tickets are pretty reasonable too! Considering that the Stratford Festival is North America’s largest classical theatre company, it is a steal for the kind of experience you get.

If you don’t want to commit to a show, I highly recommend checking out the newly designed Tom Patterson Theatre. It is a visual masterpiece- so much so that they even have tours of the space itself! You can read more about that here!

Our play was held at the Stratford Festival which is perched up at the top of the hill overlooking the Avon River. It was definitely beautiful as well and before the show started we had the chance to get lost in the Arthur Meighen Gardens. The gardens are another free thing to do in Stratford if you are looking to save some money. If you are seeing a show, I recommend coming about 30 minutes before so you can immerse yourself and take in some of the flowers. I just about face planted into a peony bush from admiring the beauty of it all.

#6. RELAX AT ONE OF THE MANY STRATFORD ACCOMODATION OPTIONS

Things to do in Stratford, The River Merchant Inn, Restaurants in Stratford, Staycations, Stratford itinerary, Stratford Hotels

Stratford has so many things to do in town that while it is exciting, you also need a nice place to hang your hat to unwind. We had the pleasure of staying at The River Merchant Inn which is located on my FAVOURITE STREET OF ALL TIME- York Street, just steps from the Avon River. I already loved the place before I saw it because of that alone. Upon checking in, I was blown away at the size of our place. We stayed in the private two-bedroom suite called the “Heintzman Music Suite” which was uniquely decorated with music memorabilia . It is an ode and tribute to Stratford’s music scene and history. It was HUGE! It features a full kitchen, dining area, TV, fireplace and massive 10 foot ceilings. The best part was the little quirky touches like light fixture made out of “Drums” or the vintage record player which we put on to unwind. You can easily have 5 girls in this suite.

#7. VISIT SHAKESPHEARE GARDENS

Things to do in Stratford, Stratford Ontario, Shakespeare Gardens, Staycations, Stratford itinerary
Shakespeare Gardens

One of the most notable things to do in Stratford is to visit the stunning Shakespeare Gardens and the best part of this activity is that it is free!

It is so picturesque with the Avon River running right through it. You can easily grab a coffee and get lost in there for hours and I recommend doing just that. The grounds are kept up immaculately and they also have several picnic tables, gazebos and even a bridge within there to soak up the scenery. If we had more time I would have brought my favourite book and got comfy here for the afternoon. Such a dream.

Tips: If you are bringing a baby, it is stroller friendly!

#8. DO THE BACON & ALE TRAIL

Things to do in Stratford Ontario, Stratford Restaurants, Heritage Brewing in Stratford, Stratford Bacon and Ale Trail

So last time I was in Stratford I was A: Pregnant and B: We brought Chloe. Due to that, we opted for the Chocolate Trail Tour. It was PERFECT for Chloe and my pregnant self haha. This time around though, the decision was easy: Beer and Bacon Trail! The Bacon and Ale Trail features over 20 different restaurants and shops that you can visit for a Bacon or Ale themed treat. We started the trail off with Heritage Hops Brew Co. which is smack in the center of town and offers prime views of the Market Square. There are so many local microbreweries included in the trail and for only $39.99- it is a perfect (and price friendly) way to visit them all. For that price, you get 5 vouchers to use at whatever places you want that are part of the Bacon and Ale Trail.

You can buy your passes at the Tourist Office which is located at: 47 Downie Street. Vouchers do not expire and can be used over multiple days.

#9. HAVE AN INCREDIBLE DINNER AT THE COMMON

Things to do in Stratford, Best Restaurants in Stratford, The Common in Stratford, Dinner Spots in Stratford
The Common in Stratford, Ontario

Dinner at The Common was a 5 star dining experience. We started with one of their many hand crafted cocktails and their Crab Rangoon appetizer which is made up of crab, cream cheese, wonton, sweet spicy chili sauce and is sprinkled with edible flowers. If you head there, I really recommend this dish. WOW!

Their tagline is “Food without Borders” and it’s because they feature comfort dishes from all around the world. Think: Unique Curry Dishes, French Steak and Frites, and Moroccan Tangine *Chef’s Kiss*. The atmosphere matches the culinary experience and features an eclectic mix of furnishings. We sat in one of their booth’s that are separated by big drapes but their alleyway patio was also very tempting!

#10. HIT UP ONE OF STRATFORD’S SPAS!

Stratford Ontario, Things to do in Stratford

Looking to take your relaxation up a notch, hit up one of the spas in town! The Illume Wellness Spa is one of the most well known in Stratford and is a great option if you are looking for a facials, massages or even a quick mani/pedi! It doesn’t hurt that it is right in the center of town- in fact it is in the same building of The River Merchant Inn making it super convenient if you choose to stay there. Owner, Kate, who has a Scandinavian background runs the place and if there is anything Scandinavian’s are known for- it’s their epic spa ways. 10/10 recommend!

I hope you enjoyed my summary of things to do in Stratford and I hope you get to plan a Stratford trip of your own! As always, feel free to message me on Instagram if you have any specific questions about my trip there!

Fairmont Banff Springs

If you don’t visit the Fairmont Banff Springs when you are in Banff, did you EVEN go to Banff?

This iconic resort is a Banff staple and also a pinnacle property in the Fairmont portfolio.  Located in the heart of the Banff National park, the hotel is perched above the Bow Falls river offering stunning views of both the water as well as the mountains!

Nicknamed “The Castle in the Rockies”, the property literally looks like it was transported from an estate in Scotland where a King and Queen used to live. It’s enormous! My husband also accurately pointed out that it gives off lots of “Harry Potter” vibes which says a lot. Despite how grand and big the resort is, it still feels cozy and intimate.  There are so many nooks and crannies to explore and if you pair that with the Fairmont’s top notch hospitality, you truly get a personalized experience.

THE GROUNDS

With restaurants, a spa, shops and views, you can post yourself up and never leave the place if you want ( and trust me when I say we found it hard some days to get moving!!). On the other hand, if you aren’t staying there, there are many ways to still experience the resort and many reasons to make your visit worth it!

The back side of the resort features the hotel’s pool ( that is very heated during the cooler months),  the Rundle Bar patio and the Vermillion Room restaurant. This was my favourite area to hang out and explore. With the mountains in clear focus out back, I found it hard to pull myself away from these captivating views. It was like something I have never seen.

With that being said, the main lobby is also a real draw here. It sets the tone upon arrival with such a grand and inviting staircase, Gothic chandeliers, exquisite stonework and high ceilings which allow so much light to spill through. You then can head up the stairs to the next level which features the hotels unique history. We found so many of the details truly fascinating and it made us appreciate how lucky we were to be staying at such an established property! Everything from the hotel being named a national monument by the Canadian government in 1988 to Marilyn Monroe being a regular back in the day to finally learning about the hotel being haunted by ghosts, it is a place that has been captivating it’s guests for decades ( even when you die you wanna come back LOL)

FAIRMONT BANFF SPRINGS

The hotel’s Willow Stream Spa is also an integral part of the hotel’s grounds as there is a whole dedicated wing for it and covers 40,000 square feet ( yes, really!). It is a world renowned spa in every way and it is the perfect spot to sooth sore muscles after hiking or skiing. We were lucky enough to have a couples massage in one of their newly renovated suites and let me tell you, I will be talking about the treatment for years to come. My husband claims it was the best massage of his life which says a lot because he is very picky! We later relaxed in the spa’s thermal waters for 20 minutes which are filled with crystals and minerals from Europe

Lastly, I need to touch on the numerous restaurants that are housed inside the resort. There are over 7 restaurants to choose from so again if you don’t want to leave the resort you do not have to. They have such a unique variety of offerings but besides that, the settings of each of these places feel truly different. One night we were inside the Waldaus Pub which is a Bavarian biergarden style pub ( think schnitzel and lots of beer) set in a romantic and enchanting house. This restaurant in particular is a good 5 minute walk from the main resort building and has you walking through lots of greenery to get there. Definitely adds to the charm of this place.  The Vermillion Room was another one of our favourites which is a brasserie style restaurant. The bistro has an upscale feel and we again felt like we were transported to another world- Paris to be specific.  It features lots of french specialties ( still dreaming of the steak and frites)  and in terms of decor, features lots of velvet and brass accents. Also bonus points for having an epic view of the mountains!

THE ROOMS

With over 700 rooms, the options in terms of room types are endless here! We stayed in a cozy corner unit that overlooked the Bow valley. Each morning we woke up to a bit of fog hanging over the mountains and it felt like a true fairy tale setting.

We planned to bring our daughter originally and forgot to take the crib off of our booking so even with the crib in the room, we still felt like we had plenty of space!  The bathroom area had two separate areas equipped with a vanity area/sink and then another room made up for the shower and toilet. My favourite part of the bathroom area ( and any Fairmont property in general) is the fact that they use Le Labo products. If you know, you know. Literally a reason to book the hotel alone in my eyes and I may or may not have gone home with a heavier luggage!! haha

We were given a welcome snack in our room as shown above ( the way to my heart is through dessert so this was a fitting welcome snack!) and we were also given a little teddy for Chloe. It was such a sweet gesture and it really showed how the Fairmont brand goes above and beyond to make their guests feel special.

The decor in the room is pretty simple but with the rest of the resort being so amped up and rich in design, you really don’t need anything more in the rooms. It almost feels calming to have it as simple as it is.

If you don’t want to wait any longer to stay here, book your stay NOW

A Fun Stay at Long Point Eco Adventures in Turkey Point https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/hotel-insider-long-point-eco-adventures/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=hotel-insider-long-point-eco-adventures https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/hotel-insider-long-point-eco-adventures/#respond Sat, 19 Oct 2019 14:06:27 +0000 https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/?p=6500

As much as I love travelling to places far and wide, there is nothing like discovering places close to home. Glamping in Turkey Point was on my summer to do list so I went on a search!

I am SO glad when I stumbled upon Long Point Eco Adventures, a glamping resort and activity hub, that is only an hour from Hamilton! ( 2 hours from Toronto)

Situated on the Turkey Point Marsh, this place is much more than just a lodge. It has literally everything you could ask for in a place. Even though there is much to discover in the neighbouring region, you really don’t NEED to leave the grounds!

The tagline of the place is “WHERE NATURE AND LUXURY THRIVE” and through the photos below, I hope you can see why this is very much true

The Grounds at Long Point Eco Adventures

With over 37 acres of land, the grounds of Long Point Eco Adventures are sprawling. It is filled with flora, ravine and the most epic view of the UNESCO Long Point Bay Biosphere Reserve . Entering the grounds feels like you are entering a different country in a way.

With axe throwing yards, a full blown zip-lining course, campfire pits, a full serviced restaurant and a star-gazing platform, there is literally something for everyone on site! We opted for the zip-lining tour which is a 2 hour tour that takes you up ladders, down zips, over bridges and really gives you a bit of background on the site itself.

[show_shopthepost_widget id="3731547"]

After zip-lining, we had lunch on site and the restaurant itself is something to write home about. IT IS SO GOOD YOU GUYS! Breakfast is included in your stay which has pretty much all the fixings ( eggs, local bacon, toast, yogurt, breads and baked goods) but the real winner here is the lunch and dinner. Specifically the fish tacos. May or may not be still dreaming about these. If you don’t manage to eat here during your stay ( perhaps you do get the urge to explore elsewhere), I would recommend sipping on a glass of some local and delicious wine and taking in the marsh views at sunset. It is perfection.

Once you do that, I recommended capping off your night at one of the many campfire pits on site ( pro tip: bring some Smores).

During our visit, the lodge had also just opened Hometown Brewery which is the cutest little brewery on site that operates out of a seacan. It is very clear that the lodge is continuing to grow and expand on the space. Yet even with all the activities and action happening there, we still felt like we had so much privacy and got to connect with nature because of how peaceful it was. Best of both worlds.

The Rooms at Long Point Eco Adventures

Listen I am going to be honest here- I am not a camper. And after an interesting ( for lack of a better word) glamping experience in Morocco, I wasn’t even sure I was a glamper. But Long Point Eco- Adventures made me not only fall in love with glamping but also made me fall in love with electric blankets. LOL.

Each room has a dual action electric blanket for when the weather is a bit chillier ( we went at the beginning of fall and it was needed) and it made me have the coziest, most perfect sleep. Also, it should be noted that my husband and I can never agree on a temperature ( I am always cold and he is always hot) and this was the perfect solution

Besides the blanket situation, the room is decked out with hardwood floors, a beautiful chandelier fixture, a spacious bed, a mini fridge and bedside tables.

If you didn’t have luscious greenery surrounding the tent, you would really think you were in a hotel! But thank heavens you do, because you feel like you are sleeping with nature without the bugs and inconvenience that comes with that.

The tent is also something to make note of. If I can even call it that. It is extremely durable and multi-functional with flaps that allow for sunlight and air to poke through but also with heavy duty zippers to create privacy and darkness.

The couple who was part of creating the lodge modelled the tents from an excursion they were on in Africa. It shows that they were inspired from somewhere far because I’ve never seen anything like it!

Our room had a bathroom inside the tent and the shower being outside ( hello nighttime star gazing shower!), however, each room is slightly different. Some rooms have the bathroom/shower fully inside the tent, others have shared bathrooms ( ie: no bathroom in the tent) and some rooms have double beds- not a King bed as shown.

With the room variety they have, it is no wonder that the place is suitable for families and friend trips alike!

Holiday Cheer with Walmart https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/holiday-cheer-with-walmart/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=holiday-cheer-with-walmart https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/holiday-cheer-with-walmart/#respond Tue, 05 Dec 2017 20:40:48 +0000 https://thedaydreamdiaries.com/?p=5079 Dr Pepper Snapple Group® sponsored this post. My favorite holiday is Christmas! BY A MILE! Not only because of the day itself- I also love the lead up to it. I love watching all my favorite Christmas movies (Home Alone, The Holiday, & Elf especially!), hearing the music playing everywhere, doing a coat drive for those less fortunate, and the Christmas parties with my loved ones.

One of my favorite Christmas traditions though is going up to our cottage right at the start of the season. It is almost like the official kick off to our holiday celebrations. We sit by the fire with drinks, we eat heartwarming dishes, we hike through the woods, and just enjoy each other’s company.

While hot chocolate, chili, and pies are always part of the schedule, each year we have a night where we brew up a new cocktail to try out!

This year I decided to make a “Norwegian Forest Cocktail”.  It went with the theme of the cottage and it also included Canada Dry (big ginger ale fan over here!). I went to Walmart and got one of Canada Dry’s specially marked packages along with some other items to make the recipe (up until Christmas, Canada Dry, 7UP, and Squirt bottles that are specially wrapped will lead to a donation to The Salvation Army – the bottles have a red and white label on the 2 L and an ugly sweater pattern on the mini cans). ‘Tis the season for being merry, but ‘tis the season to give back, too.

Ok: so here is what you will need to make the drink!

INGREDIENTS

•6 raspberries

•10 blueberries

•4 blackberries

•2 cinnamon sticks

•4 lime wedges

•ice

•juice of 1/2 lime

•½ cup (4 shots) simple syrup

•1/2 cup (4 shots) vodka

•1 2-liter bottle of Canada Dry

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Divide the berries, rosemary and limes in two glasses.

2. Muddle well and fill glasses with ice.

3. Add simple syrup and vodka and stir well.

4. Top with ginger ale.

We served them in Copper mugs to ensure they stayed cold!! My husband tends to like wine and beer more but just loved this creation! We set up shop right before the sun went down and sipped our drinks as we enjoyed the scenery.

To me, this is what Christmas is about.

Being with your loved ones all while giving back when you can!

Some snaps from the long weekend up north! Good friends of mine were kind enough to invite us up to their beautiful cottage on Kushlog Lake about 2 and a half hours from Toronto. 2 and a half hours from Toronto but felt like it was three worlds away from ordinary life. I always try to get up north at least once a summer! Last year it was with the girls and this year it was with two other couples and one important French Bulldog named Francine who is basically a local celebrity! We got into serious Monopoly games ( not trying to brag or anything but I was the Donald Trump of cottage Monopoly after my boyfriend and I decided to loan eachother some money and co-invest HA), went water skiing ( definitely trying to brag here that the girls were the only ones who got up), cliff jumping off rocks that required you to climb up with ropes, sparkler sessions on the dock ( always), whipped up some DELICIOUS homemade meals made with love and shared some hilarious laughs over wine, beer and smores. This is memory making at it’s finest to me. Better yet- this is Canada at it’s finest to me.

Thank you cottage country for always making me appreciate nature, friends, summer and being adventurous.
